Biondi Santi

Biondi-Santi is widely credited with inventing Brunello di Montalcino. In the mid-1800s, Clemente Santi isolated the Sangiovese Grosso clone (locally known as Brunello) and aged it longer than traditional Chianti wines. His grandson, Ferruccio Biondi-Santi, officially bottled the first modern Brunello in 1888—a revolutionary move that set the standard for long-aged Tuscan reds.

The estate has remained family-run for generations, and its commitment to tradition, purity, and longevity has helped build Brunello’s global reputation.

Winemaking Philosophy

  • 100% Sangiovese Grosso, from estate vineyards

  • Fermented with indigenous yeasts

  • Aged in large Slavonian oak casks for 3+ years (for the Annata) and 5–6 years (for Riserva)

  • Minimal intervention, classic style, focused on elegance, tension, and age-worthiness

  • Known for producing wines that evolve beautifully for decades

Signature Wines

  • Brunello di Montalcino Annata – the flagship wine

  • Brunello di Montalcino Riserva – made only in top vintages, from the oldest vines

  • Rosso di Montalcino – younger expression, still elegant and structured
